Double glazing in Cockfosters and Oakwood
Cockfosters and Oakwood are a short drive from our showroom at 4 Hampden Square, Southgate N14. When you book a survey you deal with a local, family run firm whose surveyor and fitters work in these streets every week.
We replace windows and doors, build porches and conservatories, and upgrade glazing on the 1930s semis and detached houses that line the streets around Oakwood station and Trent Park.
Cockfosters and Oakwood homes and what suits them
Cockfosters and Oakwood grew almost overnight. Oakwood station opened in March 1933 as Enfield West, Cockfosters followed that July as the end of the Piccadilly line, and within three years the fields around them were streets of new houses. Most homes here are 1930s semis and detached houses with two storey bays, tile hung gables and recessed porches, many on generous plots near Trent Park.
For these houses we usually fit uPVC bay windows with slim sightlines, often with Georgian bars or leaded detail to keep the interwar look. Front doors are usually composite doors in a heritage colour, and many owners enclose the old recessed entrance with a new porch.
Trent Park and local character
Trent Park, about 320 hectares of former Enfield Chase, sits on the edge of Cockfosters and has its own conservation area. Enfield Council applies an Article 4 Direction there, which means changes to windows and doors on the front of a house can need planning permission. Oakwood station itself is Grade II* listed, one of Charles Holden's Piccadilly line designs.
If your home is in or next to a conservation area, talk to us before you choose a product. We can suggest flush sash timber alternatives or Residence 9 windows that keep the traditional look, and point you to the council guidance.
