Double glazing in New Southgate and Arnos Grove
New Southgate and Arnos Grove are a few minutes from our showroom in Southgate N14. We fit windows, doors, porches and conservatories across N11, from the Victorian streets near New Southgate station to the 1930s semis around Arnos Park.
Many homes here still have their original bays, leaded lights and recessed porches, so we help you choose windows and doors that make the house warmer and quieter without losing its character.
New Southgate and Arnos Grove homes and what suits them
New Southgate grew around its railway station, opened in 1851, and its older streets still have Victorian terraces and cottages. Arnos Grove changed later and faster: the Piccadilly line arrived in September 1932, and by the end of the decade the fields around Arnos Park had become streets of 1930s semis and short terraces.
For the Victorian houses we usually fit vertical sliding sash windows or flush sash timber alternatives that keep the original look. For the interwar semis, uPVC bay windows with slim frames, a new composite front door and an enclosed porch are the most popular upgrades.
Arnos Park and local character
Arnos Park, opened to the public in 1928, is crossed by the 34 arch Piccadilly line viaduct, and Arnos Grove station is one of Charles Holden's best known designs. Many houses near the park still have their original leaded lights and stained glass, which we can keep with stained glass encapsulation inside a new double glazed unit.
New Southgate sits where Barnet, Enfield and Haringey meet, so planning rules depend on which side of the boundary your house is. We check this at the survey and tell you if any part of the work needs permission.
